Gogs Gagnon’s Prostate Cancer Strikes: Navigating the Storm is an empowering guide for those impacted by this potentially deadly disease
Courtenay, BC (September 1, 2019)- In 2017, Gogs Gagnon, a retired software programmer, was diagnosed with prostate cancer at 57. Initially horrified by the news, he decided, after his surgery and recovery, to share his story with others.
The result, , is a deeply personal yet frequently humorous account of what to expect after diagnosis. Gagnon accompanies the reader through his steps: testing, surgery, home recovery, post-surgery monitoring, and follow-up with health care professionals and support groups.
“I hope to inspire, educate and empower prostate cancer patients to become their own health advocates by seeking multiple opinions and researching the many options available, depending on their specific case,” Gagnon writes.
Gagnon emphasizes that prostate cancer hits at the very core of manhood and reveals intimate details that everyone impacted by the disease — man or woman — needs to know, and discusses what he would have done differently.
One in seven Canadian men will experience prostate cancer in their lifetimes, making it “the most commonly diagnosed cancer” in the country, according to Statistics Canada.
“To reach and inform more readers, I suggested broadening the scope of the book beyond detailing his process. He took up the suggestion and fulfilled it completely.”
